I agree with your post here. Working out to gain muscle and then to loose weight is the only way to get in the best shape

Just what I needed. I was reading that lactic acid build causes release of GH and testosterone and that anaerobic exercise is the way to go. This article shows that this form of exercise is best for fat loss while maintaining muscle mass. Good article.

I do not think most people realise just how important the squat really is. It is most likely the most effective muscle building compound exercise out of all of them. Most people begin using far too much pounds when they first start squatting, this is a bad idea. Lift a weight were you are capable to carry out 10 reps, when you are lifting at this weight you can completely concentrate on good form, learning how to execute squats with good form is going to avoid incidents when you begin placing more pounds on the bar. Also to help avoid further injuries from occurring, make sure that your knees are moving directly over the top of the toes. I hope these suggestions help!

When I went in to the Army I had trouble doing push ups so after the first P.T. Test I started doing push ups when ever I had time to kill I.E. waiting in line for what they called chow or waiting to sign out my weapon. I continued to do this even after basic and a.i.t. when I got to my first post I would also do this during work hours...needless to say that is a lot of push ups (I'm not even counting morning PT) well one morning I was performing our daily clean up well it was my turn to clean the laundry room and while pushing a broom my chest just tightend up like some one had clenched it. Well I feel over with my hand grabbing my chest just as my buddy who was a medic walked by,he called post ems and i was rushed to the e.r. after all the tests came back negitive for a heart attack they asked my about my daily routine they were shocked to hear how many push ups I was doing in a day.
It was over well over 1000 sure my chest looked great but at the same time the muscles in it just got to strained and that was my bodys way of telling my enough.I was told no PT for six months.
The moral of the story is having goals is fine but dont over do it to reach it. I can still max the PT Test even at 40 but I no longer push my self to the point of breaking down.

Great article, definitely agree with ditching long term cardio, interval training and sprinting is so much more efficient and useful. I really like how you've broken down some of the science here, and the recommendations for calisthenics are smart.

Keep it up,

100 pushups is a lot. I was trying to get to 100 even with breaks and couldn't reach it. I'm working on it and hopefully I'll be able to reach my goal.
